Clutch Basket

Postby FarKurnell » Sat Feb 06, 2010 10:51 am

Team

Sorry this is question and Wanted :) Hope its ok.

Started removing the clutch today in the S10, and it looks a little worse than I'd hoped.

The outer basket (#1 in the image) is a little scored on the very outside like something was rubbing on it while spinning. The inner section (#2) has 1 snapped bolt that holds the spring on.

1) anyone have a spare outer they wish to sell me in good condition (eg no plate wear marks in the edge)?

2) anyone know if the bolts are high tensile? Could I drill it out and helicoil it?
-- 2a) if it can't be drilled, anyone have one to sell??

Thanks
Bruce

doubt you'l find an xtz basket thats not a bit chewed up or springs shot (often wondered if the were made like as its so common!).. good news is the tdm/trx unit will fit with no problems and uses the bigger clutch pack.

there are few threads on the clutch basket issues see if i can find them.

:D Hi FARKURNELL
If you can,t find a clutch basket , in the past i have filed the edges flat in the basket where the clutch plates go
I've done this on several bikes over the years also stops clutch drag ( but can make the clutch more noisy on tick over)
hope it helps

Thanks Mr.
My basket has scoring on the outside, not in the edges of the fingers where the plates rub
:(

Would like to know how much of the TRX clutch I need if it is just the basket or the whole gig..

Im scared to ask the wrecker how much :(

Might be better to look for a TDM clutch rather than TRX (are alot less common). From my experience, the early XTZ clutch basket is different to later XTZ so i would presume that an early model basket problems were sorted out.If i remember correctly,at the rear of the basket early models have 3 light and 3 heavy springs, later models have 6 heavy springs

Thanks Mr for the tip.
I've found 3 wrecker with TRX, but wether they will seperate the clutch basket etc from the engine is another question!

TDM were not a big seller AT ALL in Aussie, I've only ever seen a handful of them, but TRX were very big here. there were 4 in my club at one point.. I thnk the TDM lost out in the looks dept in aust, they were hideous!

Will email wreckers tonight while doing a Server build at midnight :(
